Panasonic is a maker of Toughbook laptop and this time they launched a new device in its Toughbook lineup but this time they include their new smartphone in their lineup called “Panasonic Toughbook FZ-T1. This series is going to be super expensive in terms of price. the Panasonic FZ-T1 comes with low-end specifications but it will be available with a high price tag. However, the company is targetting a different market – the enterprise segment, so the price cannot be compared with regular Android handsets. The key features of the phone include a 5-inch display, quad-core Snapdragon processor, 2GB RAM, and more importantly Android 8.1 Oreo.
Panasonic calls the device a ‘handheld’, and not a smartphone. Panasonic Toughbook FZ-T1 comes in different variants such as Wi-Fi only and Wi-Fi + LTE variants. The Wi-Fi only variants will cost you approx $1515 (Rs 1,03,000) and the Wi-Fi + LTE variant is priced at approx $1615 (Rs 1,09,000). Both models will be available across Europe and come with 3-year warranty.
The speciality of this phone is it comes with an integrated barcode scanner and is intended for use apparently more as a PDA than a phone. The barcode is ideal for inventory management, Now let’s talk about some rugged features about this smartphone- the battery is rated for lasting for 12-hours, and is hot-swappable. Charging is done with contact pins rather than plugging in a micro USB cable for extra durability, as those plugs do have a finite plug/unplug lifespan.
- The FZ-T1 is IP68 water-resistant
- MIL-STD 810G-certified
- Can withstand a temperature range of -10 degrees Celsius to 50 degrees Celsius.
the FZ-T1 also comes with dock connector for connecting additional accessories. It runs on the latest Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box with minimal customizations to the UI.
It measures 154 x 75 x 13.1 mm and weighs 240 grams. There are also three microphones for intelligent noise cancellation. At such a price, this is not even worth to give a try out for the regular smartphone usage cause you could get many rugged smartphones which cost less than this one and has more features.
